Joel Midili, photographer and native San Franciscan, has been capturing images around the globe for 25 years. His images are a response to his passions, which range from a deep connection to wilderness beauty to a fascination for the gritty realities of the streets and the characters who people them. His portfolio includes the many faces of San Francisco, the wilds of North American, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and images of Cuba in the 1990s.
A current focus takes him to both, the shiny and the seedy parts of San Francisco. In the shinier neighborhoods, he may have to negotiate with a police officer to get the perspective he needs for a shot. In the seedier hoods, he may need to run, ducking pitched bottles in order to capture the edgy image he just has to have.
