Photographer Joel Midili
Joel, camera in hand, has traveled widely for 30 years, creating a portfolio of fine work, which includes images of North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Cuba in the 1990s.
He dedicates this show to his San Francisco street photography, exhibiting images captured in the shiny and seedy parts of San Francisco. Joel built alliances with tolerant police officers who allowed him to climb up on fences or debris boxes, etc, or lie down on the street to get his shot. Though he’s had to run, ducking pitched bottles, in order to capture the edgy image he just had to have, he’s also made relationships with people who call the street, home. Joel’s portraits offer an intimate look into what we so often turn away from.
